Q1 Tallest Residential Building … in the world

The tallest building Q1 is our home for the next six months. We are on the 9th floor. Our bedroom window looks to the east and the ocean. The first morning, I raised my jet-lagged head off the pillow, saw the sun rise over the ocean. Everything was a rich buttery gold. The sky, the sun, the ocean. I closed my eyes and went back to sleep, but I am sure I saw heaven.

Between the Lines

We met our landlords, Mark and Kim, a lovely couple from Victoria, and walked to the Surf Club for dinner. We had a wonderful view of the ocean and had fun watching future lifeguards train. The only place the lifeguards will save you is between the flags posted at various locations on the beach … the beach that goes for miles and miles in each direction.

Guard House

We were met at the Coolangatta’s airport by Emmanuel’s colleague at Griffith University, Jiri Neuzil. You can see his work on Vitamin E analogs here.

Packed and Ready to Go

Got into Sydney Tuesday, and then a short flight to the Coolangatta airport. Although we dreaded the 14 + hour flight from San Francisco, it really wasn’t that bad. I do advise sleeping tablets though. Zzzz We booked an aisle and a window seats with the middle seat free. Fortunately, no one sat there so we had a bit of room to stretch out. I slept quite a bit, but Emmanuel watched Christina Barcelona … which he is still talking about … Penelope Cruz … actually. After about 4 hours in the Sydney Airport when we were on a bus to the small airline to Cooangetta. Emmanuel mused, “We should really come back for a visit sometime.” I thought that was pretty funny since we really hadn’t arrived yet! Guess we are going to love it!

Covered Bike in Portland

This covered bike was really streaming down the road. I had to drive through a parking lot and up on the curb to get this photo. He was gone in an instant. Portland, Oregon
